Keilir golf club to mark 60th anniversary with history book

Golf Club Keilir has signed an agreement with Jóhann Guðni Reynisson to write the history of the Hafnarfjörður-based club, mbl.is reports. A book is due to be published next year, marking 60 years since Keilir was founded.

Keilir is one of Iceland’s largest golf clubs and has expanded over the years. The club is now considering enlarging its course area.

Several prominent golfers have emerged from the Hvaleyri grounds, including Icelandic champions Kristín Pálsdóttir, Úlfar Jónsson, Þórdís Geirsdóttir, Björgvin Sigurbergsson, Ólöf María Jónsdóttir, Kristín Elsa Erlendsdóttir, Tinna Jóhannsdóttir, Axel Bóasson, Signý Arnórsdóttir and newly crowned champion Guðrún Brá Björgvinsdóttir.

Jóhann Guðni compiled the club’s history for its first ten years, from 1967 to 1977, a decade ago. The parties have now agreed to continue working together and complete the project with a history covering Keilir’s first 60 years.
