Reykjanesbær forms task force to recruit more preschool teachers

Reykjanesbær municipality has formed a special task force to find ways to increase the number of preschool teachers and other professionally trained staff in the municipality’s preschools, mbl.is reports.

The preschool council approved the task force at a meeting on 28 August. It is expected to submit an action plan to the council in October.

The aim is to strengthen staffing at the preschools and make the jobs more attractive to professionally trained employees. The initiative is part of the 100-day plan of the Independence Party and Centre Party majority in Reykjanesbær.

An explanatory memorandum accompanying the decision states that adequate staffing is necessary to use the preschool places already available and provide families with preschool services as soon as possible.

It says that the development and expansion of preschool places must therefore go hand in hand with measures to recruit more staff. The task force will build on the work of a preschool affairs working group from the previous term of office and use the analyses it prepared.

Ásdís Ólafsdóttir, chairwoman of the preschool council, will lead the task force. Its other members are preschool officer B. Sif Stefánsdóttir, preschool director Ólöf Magnea Sverrisdóttir, preschool teacher Jenný Olga Eggertsdóttir, special education director Anna Lydía Helgadóttir, Logi Þór Ágústsson, Sverrir Örn Leifsson and Halldór Rósmundur Guðjónsson.
