People with ties to the island of Kalsoy should receive priority on the ferry Sam over foreign visitors, Paulina Eliasen of Syðradalur has told Kringvarp Føroya.

Tourism has grown on Kalsoy, and Sam is often full of tourists during the summer. As a result, Faroese people with connections to the island are visiting less frequently, which Eliasen says is affecting life on Kalsoy.

Residents also struggle to hold summer events, including christenings and funerals, because they cannot get a place on the ferry.

Dánjal Samuelsen, director of Strandferðslan, said the ferry operator was well aware of the problem and planned to find a solution before the busy travel period next summer.
