Sjóvar municipality leads population growth around Skálafjørður

Sjóvar municipality recorded the fastest population growth among the municipalities around Skálafjørður, with its population rising by 6.1 per cent over the past year, according to Kringvarp Føroya.
In August, 1,346 people lived in Sjóvar municipality, 77 more than a year earlier.
Runavík municipality recorded the largest increase in absolute numbers. Its population rose by 114 people, from 4,434 to 4,548, an increase of 2.6 per cent.
Population growth in Nes municipality was 2.7 per cent over the past year. The municipality had 1,645 residents in August, 43 more than a year earlier.
Eystur municipality, which includes the village of Undir Gøtueiði, recorded growth of 2.2 per cent. Its population now stands at 2,354, an increase of 50 people from last year.
