Police urge parents after 9/11 lesson leads to threat letter

Police have urged parents to speak seriously with their children after a threat letter found at Nordals School in Nordborg threatened several bomb attacks at the school the following day, DR reports.

Police consider the threat empty but are taking it seriously. The letter referred to the 11 September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York.

A class at the school had recently been taught about the attacks, and police believe a pupil may have been inspired by the lesson, Deputy Police Inspector Allan Dalager said.

South and Sønderjylland Police and Sønderborg Municipality have strongly encouraged parents to discuss the incident with their children.

The school informed parents about the letter on Thursday. Police are investigating who may have written it.

Preventive officers from South and Sønderjylland Police and SSP staff from Sønderborg Municipality will be at the school the following day. Pupils will be able to speak with the adults if they need support.

“In my view, this is completely unacceptable behaviour. It threatens others with a very serious act and creates anxiety among many people without reason,” Dalager said.
