Police complete investigation into fatal Äkäslompolo hostel fire

Police have completed their preliminary investigation into the fatal hostel fire in Äkäslompolo, Kolari, and submitted the case to a prosecutor for consideration of charges, Yle reports.

The fire broke out during the night on February 13, 2024, destroying the wooden hostel building. Three people died and two were injured.

Police said the lengthy investigation was delayed by interviews with people involved in their home countries and the translation of those interviews.

The case will now proceed to consideration of charges. Police said they would not provide further information.
