Halla says mourners united in silence at Harald V’s funeral

Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir attended the funeral of Norway’s King Harald V on Wednesday, mbl.is reported. In a social media post, she said a deep silence prevailed as mourners walked behind the king’s coffin.

“Everyone seemed to unite in the silence,” Halla wrote, describing the moment as an expression of respect and gratitude for a king who dedicated his life to serving his people.

Halla had met Harald at a formal dinner at the Royal Palace in Oslo last year. She gave a speech in which she delivered the opening and closing words in Norwegian and discussed the ties between the two countries.

She had earlier issued condolences to Harald’s family, saying she remembered him with warmth and gratitude.
