Witness asks why immigration authorities call him dangerous

A witness in the Höfðatorg case asked why Iceland’s Directorate of Immigration considered him a dangerous person after testifying in court, mbl.is reported on Wednesday.

The man said he had entered the parking garage beneath Höfðatorg by chance when a confrontation took place during the night leading into March 17. He said he often went there when the weather was cold and when he wanted to meet friends.

After answering questions from prosecutor Silja Rán Arnarsdóttir, the witness asked: “Why am I considered a dangerous person by the Directorate of Immigration?” He indicated that he was having problems with his residence permit.

The prosecutor replied that she had no involvement in that matter and was acting only as prosecutor in the Höfðatorg case. When the man continued asking about it, she told him to contact the police.

The man said the matter was causing him considerable anxiety. “I am only a witness in this case,” he said, repeating that he did not understand why he had been classified in that way.
