Vikingbus races to find drivers for Funen transport service

Vikingbus has taken over flex transport on Funen after the controversial company LS Busser stopped operating, but it must recruit up to 20 drivers to continue transporting vulnerable residents, DR reports.

The service includes transport for people travelling to school, medical appointments and leisure activities.

“The driver situation in Denmark is difficult at the moment. When we suddenly have to recruit extra drivers at short notice, it naturally makes the situation more challenging,” said Vikingbus director Thomas Wandahl.

He warned that the company would be unable to transport residents if it could not find enough drivers.

“If we do not find the drivers, we cannot transport the residents. Unfortunately, it is as simple as that,” Wandahl said.

Vikingbus has stepped up its recruitment efforts, but qualified drivers are not easy to find. Applicants need a heavy vehicle driving licence and must complete courses before they can transport the residents.

The company is working with 3F, municipalities on Funen, local networks and former employees as it searches for the missing drivers.
