Protesters gather in Nørrebro, Denmark, demanding safety after fatal shooting
A protest took place in Nørrebro following the fatal shooting of a 43-year-old man. Residents gathered in the street, armed with signs reading “We are taking back the streets,” to express their refusal to accept crime in their neighborhood. Jan Malinowski, one of the organizers of the demonstration, emphasized a strong desire for safety and community well-being, stating, “We want to live here. We want to chase these gang creatures out.”
Around 150 people attended the event, according to reports. Malinowski expressed hopes that the gathering would send a clear message to criminals, encouraging them to steer clear of the area and highlighting the need for increased pressure on authorities to act decisively.
Henrik Norlander Smith, a long-time resident of nearly 30 years, also participated in the demonstration to show support for a 42-year-old woman who was injured in the incident and to advocate for peace in the neighborhood. He stated, “It’s about showing that we are here, we live here, and you cannot take our wonderful areas from us. You are few. We are many.”
According to police, the injured woman had no ties to the ongoing conflict associated with the shooting incident and was reported to be out of danger later that evening. In August alone, there have been five recorded incidents involving gunfire and explosions in the vicinity.
