Authorities in Iceland are investigating a suspected drug smuggling case linked to a vessel that arrived from the Faroe Islands. The Icelandic news outlet RUV reports that a significant police operation took place in Höfn, Hornafjörð, yesterday due to suspicions regarding drug trafficking associated with the arriving boat around midday.
According to sources cited by the outlet, two individuals have been detained in connection with the investigation. The police developed suspicions about the vessel’s crew during a customs inspection yesterday.
The investigation is still in its early stages, and further details are not yet available. However, the police have received assistance from the major crimes unit in Reykjavík, as stated by Kristján Rúnarsson, a senior police officer in the area speaking to RUV.
