Police bring Kársnes homicide suspect from Poland

Police from the Capital Region Police brought a suspect in the Kársnes homicide case from Poland on Friday, mbl.is reports. He was subsequently remanded in custody.

The man is one of two suspects arrested abroad after a man was killed in Kársnes, Kópavogur, on August 9. He was arrested in Poland after leaving Iceland. The other suspect was arrested in Spain after the police investigation began and was brought to Iceland more than a week ago.

Elín Agnes Eide Kristínardóttir, chief superintendent with the Capital Region Police, confirmed that the man had been brought to Iceland on Friday. She said the two men had been questioned several times abroad before being transferred to Iceland.

Both men are Polish citizens and were in Iceland when the man in Kársnes was killed.

Police have previously said they believe an edged weapon was used in the attack. No such weapon had been found according to information published in August.

Kristínardóttir would not say whether police now had the suspected murder weapon. “There are all kinds of items under examination,” she said, declining to provide further details or confirm whether a possible murder weapon was among them.

The victim was a Polish man in his forties. He was attacked at a home in Kársnes on August 9 and later died from his injuries.

The investigation has been extensive, with several people arrested in connection with the case. Police believe it is linked to organised criminal activity, and Europol has taken part in the investigation.
