Parents report Olivia Oras’s death after liposuction at Helsinki clinic

People close to social media influencer Olivia Oras have filed a police report over her death, alleging aggravated causing of death, Yle’s investigative programme MOT reports. Her parents, art dealer Reijo Oras and artist Johanna Oras, confirmed the report.

The report concerns a private clinic in Helsinki. Oras’s parents believe the clinic was responsible for their daughter’s death.

According to two independent sources cited by MOT, Oras underwent liposuction at a cosmetic clinic in Helsinki. The sources said problems began during the anaesthesia before the procedure. Oras lost consciousness and was taken to HUS for treatment, where she later died.

The sources did not know whether a treatment error had occurred or whether the death resulted from another cause. Her parents confirmed that Oras lost consciousness during the anaesthesia and died after being treated in hospital. They said HUS did everything possible to save her life.

MOT said it was not known whether police had decided to begin a preliminary investigation. No one has been suspected of a crime at this stage.

Oras’s death became public last week. She was 27. The Uuno website, which first reported the death, said it occurred in connection with an unsuccessful medical procedure.

Oras became widely known after the 2017 documentary The Perfect Selfie, which followed her life as a social media influencer and the pressures it brought. In 2024, she told Me Naiset magazine that she had struggled with substance abuse and an eating disorder. She was the daughter of an artist family.
