Bike theft halts Anders Melsen’s Jutland pub tour

Anders Melsen has had his bicycle and camping equipment stolen in Esbjerg, forcing him to continue his 3,000-kilometre tour of Jutland’s brown pubs on foot, DR reports.

The 28-year-old gave up his apartment just over a month ago to travel the roads by bicycle and visit every brown pub in Jutland.

But when he went to collect his bicycle from a basement on Sunday morning, it was gone. Only his bicycle helmet had been left behind. His tent, sleeping mat and cooking equipment were also stolen.

“Fortunately, I had taken a bag with clothes up to the apartment, along with my electronics,” Melsen said. He is currently in Esbjerg.

He plans to spend the next week in the city. Instead of travelling from pub to pub by bicycle, he will make the trips on foot. If the bicycle is not recovered, he will buy a new one before continuing the tour.

Melsen said he was particularly upset because the stolen Trek bicycle had been part of his life before the trip and had accompanied him through difficult and good times.

After news of the theft was shared on his Instagram profile, people offered sympathy and offered to lend him a bicycle. Melsen said he was staying close to everything with a friend in Esbjerg, so he would manage.
