State Council to meet as Parliament prepares to open

The State Council will meet at Bessastaðir at 1 p.m. on Monday, mbl.is reports, citing a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Parliament will open on Tuesday. The opening ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a service at Reykjavík Cathedral. The president of Iceland, the bishop of Iceland, the speaker of Parliament, ministers and members of Parliament will walk in procession to the cathedral from the Parliament House.

Daði Már Kristófersson, the minister of finance and economic affairs, will present the 2027 budget bill at 9 a.m. on Monday.

The prime minister’s policy address and debate on it will take place on Wednesday evening. The first debate on the 2027 budget bill is scheduled for Thursday, September 10, and Friday, September 11.
