Nearly half of drivers use their old tyres until they reach the legal minimum before replacing them, according to a survey commissioned by the Finnish Tyre Association and reported by Yle.
Slightly more than half of drivers aged 18 to 34 said they do the same.
Tyres should be replaced well before reaching the legal limit because their condition has a significant impact on road safety. The main grooves should be at least 1.6 millimetres deep on summer tyres and 3 millimetres on winter tyres.
YouGov Finland conducted the survey in April and May. Around 1,000 Finnish motorists responded.
