Police boat collision seriously injures two civilians

Two people were seriously injured when a police patrol boat collided with a civilian boat in waters near Middelgrundsfortet off Copenhagen Harbour, DR reports.

The two injured people were taken to Rigshospitalet for treatment. Simon Hansen, deputy police inspector with Copenhagen Police, told Ritzau that they had serious injuries but were not in critical condition.

The six other people aboard the civilian boat and the officers on the police boat were examined by doctors. None had suffered major injuries, Hansen said.

Police and rescue personnel were present at Langelinie in Copenhagen. At least two emergency medical cars, two ambulances, three police vehicles, motorcycle officers and the Capital Region Emergency Services attended the scene. Two ambulances and an emergency medical car later left under police escort.

The Danish Maritime Authority, the Accident Investigation Board and the Independent Police Complaints Authority have been notified. Copenhagen Police said the authorities would investigate what happened on the water.

The Independent Police Complaints Authority investigates cases in which someone dies or suffers serious injury as a result of police action, or while in police custody. The Accident Investigation Board determines the causes of accidents and other incidents.
