Yle anchors test 100-event century news quiz

Yle has published a 100-question news quiz covering major events from the company’s archives, and its news anchors have tested it in advance.
The quiz was created for Yle’s centenary celebrations and includes archival material from the 1920s to the present day.
Recently retired television newsreader Marjukka Havumäki and current news anchor Pietu Heiskanen reunited at Yle’s premises to take the quiz.
The test begins with questions about news from the 1920s and 1930s. Havumäki spots herself in the quiz and recalls a time when newsreaders sat behind a desk.
“Now you have to stand,” Heiskanen replies.
The quiz also features a former Yle star reporter, whose identity is revealed through the questions. One item asks why Finnish citizens’ hair was collected during wartime.
Heiskanen says the test gives him confidence in his work as an anchor and jokes that viewers can still trust his knowledge of the decades, even though Havumäki has retired.
Yle recommends setting aside plenty of time and finding a comfortable place before taking the quiz.
