Jersey Day unites Icelanders in support of children with cancer

People across Iceland wore their favourite jerseys on Friday in support of children with cancer and their families, mbl.is reported.

Jersey Day was held in Iceland for the first time this year. The event is organised by Börn með krabbamein, a support organisation that assists children diagnosed with cancer and their families through education, counselling and other support.

People were encouraged to wear a favourite jersey to show solidarity with the children and their families. Many took part and shared photographs on social media using the hashtag #treyjudagurinn.

Jerseys from various teams and sports clubs were prominent, but the message was the same: everyone was on the same team. Participants included individuals, companies and organisations such as VÍS, Rás 2, K100, Hagkaup, Reykjavík City and the City of Kópavogur.
