Green Party targets record result as Social Democrats lose ground

The Green Party is on course for its strongest election result ever, while the Social Democrats are falling in recent polls, SVT reported. Green Party co-spokesperson Amanda Lind said the relative size of the parties would affect the policies pursued after a possible election victory.

“It is clear that the size of the parties matters,” Lind said when asked whether a stronger Green Party could lead to higher taxes than Social Democrat leader Magdalena Andersson has promised voters.

In SVT Verian’s September poll, the Greens received 8.0 percent support. That would exceed the party’s previous record of 7.3 percent, set in 2010.

“We are aiming for it, to achieve our best election result ever. It is clearly within reach,” Lind said.

At the same time, the Social Democrats have declined in several polls over the past week. This has raised concerns among Green Party members that an election victory could be slipping away from the centre-left parties.

The Greens’ policy priorities include a billionaire tax and an income tax proposal that places the party to the left of the Left Party.

SVT followed Lind during the final stage of the election campaign as she sought voters and attended a Green Party event at Telefonplan in southern Stockholm.
