Maria Jørðdal Niclasen becomes Faroe Islands’ first woman bishop

Maria Jørðdal Niclasen, the cathedral provost, is serving as acting bishop of the Faroe Islands until September 14, KVF reported Friday.
She is the first woman to hold the position, serving as acting bishop for just over a week.
Niclasen was appointed cathedral provost on January 25. The cathedral provost serves as the bishop’s deputy and is the first woman in the leadership of the People’s Church.
