Søren Korsholm had little time to process his thoughts before rushing to the scene where a 43-year-old man was shot and killed on Hans Tavsens Gade in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. Just a few meters from his home, he was in his garden with friends when they heard loud bangs around 5:15 PM.
“Suddenly, there are two huge blasts. I didn’t immediately think of gunshots because they were extremely loud,” said Korsholm, who works as a local center manager. He ran to the gate and observed that the street was empty, but a lifeless man lay where he stood.
Together with a friend, Korsholm called emergency services, which instructed him to begin life-saving measures immediately. As more people arrived to help, they attempted to stop the bleeding from the gunshot wound. Authorities arrived shortly afterward to take over the rescue efforts.
The victim was known to the police and had connections with the gang Loyal to Familia, although he was not registered as a gang member. A police spokesperson mentioned the ongoing investigation into the man’s relationships and potential links to recent conflicts involving Swedish citizens. Recent incidents include a bombing near a kiosk attributed to two Swedes, both in custody on charges related to attempted murder.
Despite a series of violent incidents in Nørrebro, Korsholm considers it a “good and safe place to live.” Reflecting on the tragic event, he shared, “This has never happened to me before, and I don’t think it’s normal. It’s just terribly tragic.” He added that he and his neighbors plan to discuss their experiences as a way to cope.
