Women living in violent or controlling relationships who keep a hidden mobile phone are being urged to switch it off before Sweden tests its new warning system, SVT reports.

The SE-Alert system will be tested on Monday, September 7. Smartphones in Stockholm and Gotland counties will emit a loud signal and vibrate, even when set to silent.

Roks, the national organisation for women’s and girls’ shelters, warned that an unexpected alert could reveal a hidden phone to a partner or another close person and, in the worst case, put the user in danger.
