No concrete Russian threat identified against Faroe Islands

There is no indication that the threat to the Faroe Islands has increased, despite more serious Russian activity in NATO and European Union countries, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Denmark and Germany have accused Russia in recent days of attacks and plans for sabotage. In Denmark, PET has uncovered specific Russian plans to sabotage companies in the defence industry. German authorities have also linked Russia to an unsuccessful drone attack in Germany.

Although tensions have escalated across Europe, there is currently no reason to believe that the threat to the Faroe Islands has grown, said Michael Boolsen, the chief of police. Faroese authorities and police are nevertheless following the situation closely.

Tór Marni Weihe, an expert on Russian affairs, likewise believes that the threat to the Faroe Islands has not increased. However, he said the recent incidents show that the conflict between Russia and NATO has intensified.
