Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík welcomes 270 new students with tossing ritual

Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, an upper-secondary school, welcomed 270 new students on Thursday with its traditional “tollering” initiation ceremony, mbl.is reported.

As usual, toga-clad sixth-year students approached the school building and collected the newcomers. The students were then thrown into the air several times.

After the ceremony, the new students were considered full members of the school community. They were later collected from their classrooms.

The newcomers received an intimidating welcome, with fear visible on their faces.
