Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, road closures, traffic

Traffic lights at the intersections of Breiðholtsbraut and Reykjanesbraut, and Nýbýlavegur and Dalvegur, were shut down by a fault on Thursday morning, mbl.is reports. The intersections have been closed to traffic.

Repairs are under way, but the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration does not know when they will be completed. The fault was traced to a defective control box operating the traffic lights at both intersections.

Sigríður Inga Sigurðardóttir, a communications specialist at the administration, said the problem was larger than initially expected.

Logi Sigurjónsson, a senior police officer with the capital-area police, said the closures had not caused significant delays. Authorities hope the repairs will be finished before afternoon traffic begins.
