Finland’s government has proposed extending the Border Security Act through the end of 2028, Yle reported, citing the Ministry of the Interior.

The law is used, among other measures, to counter pressure directed at Finland and strengthen security at the border.

The proposal would not change the content of the law. It is scheduled to enter into force no later than December 31, 2026.

In June, Finland decided to keep its eastern border closure in place indefinitely. The land crossing points between Finland and Russia have been closed since December 2023.
