Several popular Icelandic soft drinks have temporarily returned to their older can design because supplies of the slimmer cans ran short, mbl.is reports.
The cans, known as sleek cans, are taller and narrower than the design that was previously most common. Appelsín, Kristall and Pepsi Max, all produced by Ölgerðin, have recently been sold in the older cans.
Elísabet Austmann of Ölgerðin said the change was not due to dissatisfaction with sleek cans. Demand for them has also been growing abroad, creating a temporary shortage and preventing the company’s suppliers from keeping up with increased sales of its most popular products.
Ölgerðin had older-style cans produced for the three drinks to ensure continued supply. The company expects to return them to sleek cans in the autumn, if everything goes as planned.
