Twelve vessels ready to set sail for mackerel in Norwegian waters
Twelve fishing vessels that have secured permits to catch mackerel in Norwegian waters will set sail on Monday.
No official announcements regarding fishing quotas have been made yet.
A total of 21 ships applied for permission to fish under the new mackerel agreement with Norway. The drawing for permits took place on Wednesday.
The nine vessels that did not make the first twelve include: Birita, Gøtunes, Fagraberg, Christian í Grótinum, Tummas T, Eysturbúgvin, Vesturbúgvin, Arctic Voyager, and Ango.
Fishing permits are issued for one trip at a time. Once a trip concludes, the ship will rank according to its position on the list of the 21 applicants.
It is essential for the winning vessels to act promptly; if a ship does not depart for fishing within 24 hours of receiving the permit, the allocation will become void, allowing the next ship on the list to take its place.
The vessels that won the drawing have informed the authorities that they will set sail on Monday.
