Experts to examine AI’s role in Ukraine war

Artificial intelligence has rapidly transformed security in recent years, with its growing role in the war in Ukraine set to be discussed at an event on Friday evening, mbl.is reports.

The event, titled “Artificial intelligence on the frontline”, will take place at Vinnustofa Kjarvals. Natalia Mishyna, an expert at Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, and Erik Kursetgjerde, Norway’s representative to NATO’s cyber defence division, will discuss how artificial intelligence has shaped the war.

Defend Iceland is organising the event. The company’s marketing director, Hugrún Helga Stefánsdóttir, said drones had become one of the most important weapons on the battlefield in Ukraine.

“Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in finding targets, analysing information and supporting decision-making,” she said.

The programme will also cover artificial intelligence and the security of Icelandic companies. Steinar Jónas Kristjánsson, managing director of Samkaup’s information technology division, will discuss security challenges in the retail sector.

Ethical hacker Hjörtur Pálmi Pálsson will describe how he broke into the systems of the world’s largest insurance company with the help of artificial intelligence.
