Kringvarp Føroya reports that a patrol vessel will be included as proposals for the 2027 budget and a long term investment plan are prepared, according to minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen.

He was responding to a question from member of the Faroese Parliament Eirikur í Jákupsstovu about the patrol vessels.

Both Brimil and Tjaldrið are currently laid up. Brimil is expected to return to service in mid October, while no date is known for Tjaldrið to sail again.

Denmark’s naval vessel Lauge Koch is currently in the Faroe Islands. As long as the two Faroese vessels remain out of service, a Danish naval vessel will be in Faroese waters.

A proposal for the 2024 budget said that work would begin in 2025 to acquire a new patrol vessel to replace Tjaldrið. Four million kroner was allocated in 2024, but no funding was provided in 2025. The proposal said priority would be given to building or acquiring a replacement vessel.
