Mother says Irish crash victim fell in love with Iceland

Sam Large, the mother of Hannah Jane Large, who died in a car crash on Krýsuvíkurvegur early Monday, has thanked Icelandic President Halla Tómasdóttir for her words of condolence, mbl.is reported.

Hannah was one of three young people killed in the crash.

In a Facebook post, President Tómasdóttir said her thoughts were with the families and friends of those who died.

“No words can encompass such a loss,” she wrote. “When grief comes knocking in this way, we are reminded of how precious and fragile life is. Let us be careful and look after one another.”

In a comment beneath the post, Large said her daughter, who was from Ireland, had fallen in love with Iceland and its people.

“Her last days were the happiest of her life. That is the only comfort we have and hold on to,” she wrote. Large said the family had spoken to Hannah that evening and that she had been full of joy.

“It is tragic that she has left her brother and us behind,” Large wrote.
