Seinäjoki data centre unaffected by Kouvola halt, developer says

Construction of a data centre in Seinäjoki will continue despite the main contractor abandoning work on a data centre project in Kouvola, Yle reports. The parties responsible for the Seinäjoki investment and its development say the events in Kouvola will not affect the project.

CTS Nordics has been the main contractor on the Kouvola project for about two years. The company has not responded to Yle’s questions about why construction was halted, and its chief executive, Marcus Toiviainen, said he could not comment on the matter.

It is currently unclear what caused the interruption in Kouvola. Atnorth, an Icelandic company responsible for the Kouvola data centre contract, has already found a replacement contractor. YIT will complete the work.

Seinäjoki project remains on schedule

The Seinäjoki data centre investment is being led by British company Pure DC Projects, to which the city of Seinäjoki sold the land for 3.9 million euros last spring.

Chris Talago, Pure DC’s director responsible for corporate relations and communications, confirmed that CTS Nordics is also the main contractor for the Seinäjoki project. He said the problems in Kouvola would have no effect on the Seinäjoki development.

“It will not affect it in any way,” Talago said in an email.

Talago said he could not answer questions about CTS Nordics and directed Yle to contact the company directly.

Jukka-Pekka Joensuu, chair of the board of SDC Project Ventures, the development company for the Seinäjoki project, also said the construction was proceeding according to plan.

“We have a clear plan for advancing construction, and construction is currently progressing well on schedule,” Joensuu said.
