Former MP Ano Turtiainen’s house seized over bank debt

The detached house owned by former Valta belongs to the people MP Ano Turtiainen in Juva has been seized, Yle reports.

Court notices published on Tuesday in the Official Gazette said the Kymenlaakso District Court had issued a default judgment in the case. Iltalehti was the first to report the matter.

According to the judgment, Turtiainen owes Oma Säästöpankki 3,790.80 euros, in addition to 3,113.09 euros in interest and 469 euros in other costs, including legal expenses.

Three mortgage deeds are attached to the house in Juva. One has a nominal value of 150,000 euros, while the other two are each worth 80,000 euros.

The court said its process server had been unable to deliver the summons to Turtiainen. He did not respond to requests for contact, and the court had not received information about his whereabouts. The court said it had taken all the steps that could reasonably be expected to establish his location.

Russia’s Interior Ministry has said that Turtiainen has been granted refugee status in Russia. He has also told Russian media that he is applying for Russian citizenship.

The default judgment will become legally binding 30 days after it is served unless the defendant applies to the district court to have the case reheard during that period.

Oma Säästöpankki will sell the property to recover the money. If the debt is paid before the sale, the seizure will lapse and the property will be returned to the debtor.

In March, a housing company in Mikkeli took possession of an apartment owned by Turtiainen for three years because of unpaid maintenance charges.
