Foreigners would face Faroese test for permanent residence

A new law on foreigners would introduce stricter requirements for obtaining permanent residence in the Faroe Islands, KVF reports.

Applicants would have to pass a test in Faroese as a second language before being granted permanent residence, according to Jacob Vestergaard, a government minister, in a response to Member of Parliament Hermann Ronnason Samuelsen.

There are currently no Faroese language requirements when permanent residence is granted in connection with family reunification.
