Machinery Masters Association sues Faroe Origin in Permanent Court of Justice

The Machinery Masters Association has taken legal action against the fishing company Faroe Origin, located in Runavík, in the Permanent Court of Justice.

The association asserts that it is a breach of contract for the company to deny them access to necessary documents to verify whether the fuel consumption of the trawlers operated by Faroe Origin is accounted for in line with the agreement.

Furthermore, the association claims it is also a contractual violation that the crew is made to pay part of the expenses for the ice machines on the vessels.

The trawlers involved are Heyk, Falk, Bak, and Stelk.

The reason behind the Machinery Masters Association’s move to court is suspicion of irregularities.

The demands in the court filing include a lack of access to financial documents, deductions in crew housing for fuel expenses, and deductions for costs related to ice machines.

The association is currently in a dispute with Faroe Origin alongside the Faroese Skippers and Navigators Association regarding another matter.

This issue concerns landings abroad for the trawlers Heyk, Falk, Bak, and Stelk while the workers’ unions were on strike.

Both crew organizations believe they have not received adequate insight into the settlements and financial accounts pertaining to the trawlers.

They have made it clear that this matter is far from resolved, as stated by the Machinery Masters Association in a press release.

A month ago, the Machinery Masters Association lodged a similar complaint against the Faroese Shipowners Association, which Faroe Origin is now contesting.
