New maternity ward starts operating immediately

Landssjúkrahúsið hospital’s new maternity ward opened on Tuesday and was put to use almost immediately, Kringvarp Føroya reported.

The ward in the hospital’s H-building was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, speeches and music. Two of its three birthing rooms were occupied when Kringvarp was shown around, and the third was also taken into use shortly afterwards.

The move ends a long period in which the maternity ward was based in the A-building, which opened in 1924 as Dronning Alexandrines Hospital.

The new facilities have been adapted to modern requirements and include new technology, birthing rooms and single rooms.
