Shooting incident in Nørrebro, Copenhagen leaves one dead and one injured
On Thursday afternoon, Hans Tavsens Gade, a usually peaceful street in Nørrebro, Copenhagen, transformed into a crime scene when a 43-year-old man was shot dead and a 42-year-old woman was injured but is reported to be in stable condition. Antonia Martinez, a local resident with a child attending a nearby school, expressed concerns over safety in the area, noting, “It’s upsetting that this keeps happening, especially since we live here.”
This incident follows several recent shooting episodes in Copenhagen, including one near Blågårds Plads, just eight days prior, where a 16-year-old Swedish boy was charged with attempted murder. Two Danish individuals have since been detained for their involvement.
Martinez highlighted the frequent gun violence in densely populated areas like Nørrebro, stating it contributes to a loss of safety for families in the community. In addition to local shootings, a jewelry store in Frederiksberg was targeted on the preceding Monday, leading to the arrest of a 17-year-old Swedish citizen. The following day, a hand grenade was thrown into a kiosk on Østerbro, resulting in the arrests of two Swedish nationals.
Copenhagen’s Justice Minister, Peter Hummegaard, noted that there have been 25 instances since April where criminal elements in Denmark have hired Swedes for criminal activities. While authorities are investigating whether the shooting is connected to these “orders” involving Swedish recruits, they have not confirmed any links yet.
The police are continuing their search for the shooter from Thursday’s incident, described by witnesses as wearing black clothing and fleeing the scene on a bike. Both victims are Danish citizens.
