People honour three young victims at Krýsuvíkurvegur crash site

People have travelled to Krýsuvíkurvegur to honour three young people who died there, mbl.is reports. The victims were in a car that left the road.

Flowers and candles have been placed at the intersection of Krýsuvíkurvegur and Leiðarendi, where the crash occurred. The Capital Region Police and the Transportation Accident Investigation Board are investigating the circumstances.

The crash is Iceland’s deadliest since December 2018.

Langholtskirkja, a church, opened its doors on Monday evening to students from Menntaskólinn við Sund, a secondary school attended by one of the victims. The school principal addressed the students, who were also given an opportunity to light candles and remember those who died.

About 180 people attended. Ásta Ingibjörg Pétursdóttir, who leads the work at Langholtskirkja, said the students had held and comforted one another.
