The Faroese Red Cross and the Faroese government will jointly provide 500,000 kroner in emergency aid following severe flooding in Nepal, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reports.
The flooding struck an area on the Nepal-Tibet border on 26 August. The funds will support the Nepal Red Cross’ relief work, which provides assistance where the need is greatest.
The response includes search and rescue operations, first aid, temporary shelter, emergency supplies, food, clean drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, psychological support and financial assistance for affected households.
According to Nepalese authorities, the disaster has so far killed at least 1,003 people and left 3,961 missing, the AFP news agency reports. In Tibet, 546 people are missing.
