Police investigate eight violent incidents at Espoo waterfront

Police are investigating at least eight violent incidents that took place at the Haukilahden waterfront in Espoo on 28 and 29 August, Yle reports. Most of those involved were aged between 15 and 18, and police said none of the incidents caused life-threatening injuries.

The cases are being investigated as assaults, aggravated assaults and robbery.

On the evening of 28 August, two girls allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old girl by kicking her and pulling her hair. Police believe the suspects were already known to the victim. The motive is being investigated.

That same evening, a group of several people allegedly punched and kicked a 16-year-old boy. Police are working to identify the suspects and determine the motive.

Police emptied the waterfront area on Friday to prevent further offences.

On the evening of 29 August, a group allegedly punched and kicked a boy aged about 15. Police said around 20 people were involved, but the suspects have not been identified.

In another incident on Saturday, two young men allegedly hit an 18-year-old man several times and stole his necklace. Police arrested both suspects.

Police suspect the incident was connected to earlier events involving the suspects and the victim. Further details are being investigated.

Crime Commissioner Tanja Taulo urged parents and guardians to pay close attention to their children’s evening plans, companions and return times.

She also advised guardians to find out how their young person’s evening went and to remind them to follow officials’ instructions and leave if a situation appears unsafe.
