Northern bottlenose whale washes ashore alive

A northern bottlenose whale has washed ashore alive at Brandsvík near Djúpivogur, mbl.is reports.

Þórhallur Árnason, chief superintendent with the East Iceland police, said police, the East Iceland Institute of Natural History and others were working on the case. Police received a report about the stranded whale shortly before 11 a.m.

“It is not unusual for us to see whales stranded in the fjords, and we simply hope it will be possible to get it back out to sea,” Þórhallur told mbl.is.
