Police to interview witnesses after crash kills three young people

The police investigation into a crash on Krýsuvíkurvegur near Bláfjallavegur, in which three young people died, is at an early stage, mbl.is reports.

The victims were a boy and two girls who were travelling in a car that left the road. The Capital Region Police and the Transportation Accident Investigation Board are investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Several other vehicles were at the scene when the crash occurred. Sævar Guðmundsson, a chief superintendent with the Capital Region Police, said the investigation was under way but remained in its early stages.

“It will be the task over the next few days to speak with witnesses, and the investigation is aimed at finding out what happened,” Sævar said. He added that he could not imagine anyone being given the legal status of a suspect.

The crash is the deadliest road accident in Iceland since December 2018.
