The Brákarborg preschool in Reykjavík, which was closed over the summer, will undergo extensive repairs that are expected to take at least six months. This was revealed during a meeting between the City of Reykjavík and the parents of the children enrolled at the preschool. As a result, the children will temporarily relocate to facilities in Ármúla.

Significant repairs are needed due to structural issues; the sod roof was deemed too heavy, necessitating reinforcement of the interior walls. The construction costs for the premises at Kleppsveg, where the preschool moved in autumn 2022, amounted to nearly 1.3 billion ISK.

An inspection was conducted following concerns raised about the building, revealing the issues with the roof. The repairs are projected to cost tens of millions of ISK. While the children will begin schooling next Monday in temporary accommodations in Ármúla, parents have expressed frustration over this arrangement due to the increased traffic in that area compared to the original location at Kleppsveg.

During the meeting, city officials pledged to work closely with parents and explained that the Ármúla facilities were selected as the best available option. However, parents are worried that their children will be inadequately supported in the new setting, with some expressing concerns that the transition and conditions could reveal further complications.
