Icelandic news outlet mbl.is reported that President Halla Tómasdóttir has offered condolences to the families and friends of three young people who died in a car crash on Krýsuvíkurvegur road during the night.
The victims, a boy and two girls, were all in a vehicle that left the road while travelling south on Krýsuvíkurvegur, near Bláfjallavegur.
“My thoughts are with the families and friends of the young people who died in the horrific accident last night. No words can encompass such a loss,” Tómasdóttir wrote in a Facebook post.
She urged people to take care and look out for one another, saying the tragedy was a reminder of how precious and vulnerable life is.
The crash was the deadliest in Iceland since December 2018. The Metropolitan Police and the Transport Accident Investigation Board are investigating its cause.
