Greenland’s largest school has opened its doors to 1,200 primary school pupils, mbl.is reports. Atuarfik Inussuk in central Nuuk was first planned nearly seven years ago, after Ístak’s design and construction bid for the new school won a competition in December 2019.

The construction process was significantly delayed by the pandemic and difficulties importing supplies because of the war in Ukraine.

The building will also serve as a cultural centre in the evenings after school activities have ended. The school’s name, Inussuk, means “cairn” in Greenlandic.
