Repairs at the Brákarborg preschool in Reykjavík, which was closed this summer, will take up to six months. This announcement was made during a meeting between Reykjavík City officials and parents of the preschool children. In the meantime, the children will be temporarily relocated to facilities in Ármúla.

Significant repairs are needed for Brákarborg, located on Kleppsveg. Turf was removed from the roof, which was deemed too heavy, and the walls inside the building require reinforcement. The preschool was forced to close after cracks were discovered in its walls.

Brákarborg had moved to a newly constructed building on Kleppsveg last autumn, previously occupied by a sex shop, at a cost of nearly 1.3 billion Icelandic krónur. The anticipated repair expenses are expected to reach tens of millions of krónur.

Children will begin classes on Monday in the temporary accommodations in Ármúla. Parents have expressed disappointment with the temporary housing situation, citing increased traffic in the area compared to Kleppsveg. Reykjavík City reassured parents about ongoing collaboration and stated that Ármúla was chosen as the best available option under the circumstances.

Concerns have arisen among parents about the adequacy of the temporary arrangement, with some expressing frustration about their children being “just stuffed in there,” leaving many questions unanswered regarding future developments.
