Government has no plans to ban smart glasses

The government will not currently propose legislation banning smart glasses, KVF reports. It is monitoring how the technology develops, how neighbouring countries handle the issue and how individual privacy can be protected.

Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen gave the response to Bjørt Lind, a member of the Faroese parliament. He said the question was whether existing legislation provides sufficient protection for the right to privacy.

Johannesen said smart glasses and other devices capable of recording images, sound and video are not illegal in themselves.

Lind said there had recently been several cases in which people, particularly women, were recorded with smart glasses without knowing it. The recordings were then shared on social media, she said.
