Venstre politician calls Søren Gade’s opposition to law disloyal

DR reports that a newly elected Venstre MP has criticised party colleague Søren Gade for planning to vote against a proposed fertiliser law, while two mayors and local party organisations have urged the entire parliamentary group to reject the law in its current form.

Trine Jepsen, who represents Herning, described Gade’s decision to defy the party line as “disloyal conduct”. Venstre supports the law, which would reduce farmers’ use of fertiliser to protect life in the fjords.

“I may be new to politics. But I will never become so experienced that I learn to respect disloyal conduct,” Jepsen wrote on Facebook.

She also criticised Gade for announcing his position to TV Midtvest while Venstre’s parliamentary group and spokesperson were still working on the issue.

“Choosing, in the middle of the ongoing negotiations, to go to TV Midtvest and announce your own position while your own group and spokesperson are still working hard on the matter is quite simply disloyal,” she wrote.

Gade announced on Wednesday that he would vote against the law, despite Venstre’s support for it.

At the same time, Holstebro mayor Kenneth Tønning and Struer mayor Marianne Bredal, both from Venstre, have signed an open letter calling on the party’s parliamentary group to vote against the law in its current form.

The letter was also signed by Venstre’s municipal council groups in Holstebro, Struer and Lemvig, as well as the party’s local associations in the three municipalities.
