Man shot by police in Haderslev faces remand request

A 24-year-old man who was injured by police gunfire after a car chase in Haderslev last week will appear at a custody hearing on Saturday, with prosecutors seeking his remand, DR reports.

South and Southern Jutland Police said on the Politi Update messaging service that the hearing will take place at 11 a.m. at Sønderborg District Court.

Police had initially said that their preliminary investigation did not provide sufficient grounds to bring the man before a custody hearing. He was subsequently released.

The man was driving a car on Sunday when officers from Southeast Jutland Police pursued him and eventually fired at him. The reason for the chase remains unclear.

Police first opened fire on Ribe Landevej. A short time later, shots were fired near the junction of Moltrup Landevej and Norgesvej and Lænkebjerg. The man was hit in the second incident.

Police said on Monday that the man was suspected of attempted murder. The specific grounds for the accusation remain unclear, as does the identity of the person he allegedly tried to kill.

The hearing is expected to be held in open court. The Independent Police Complaints Authority is investigating the incident.

Officers from another police district, Southeast Jutland Police, carried out the pursuit and fired the shots.
